High big

I've seen some at 280ps but I think the largest it could go to what you say is 260px. I'd prefer 280px but t's your decision as 250px is smaller than it needs to be. Chubbennaitor 19:27, 21 March 2010 (UTC)

Hello, I have tried to insert a logo of Matra company in Matra article but I do not know how to insert pictures into wiki articles. Could you help me and make article about Matra better ? Thank you. The logo may comes from web pages: http://auta5p.eu/katalog/matra/matra.htm —Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.40.240.88 (talk) 08:28, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

If we can expand this a bit more, with references, we can get this article to c class.--BSTemple (talk) 02:50, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

Fantastic! I will leave the article to you (you have the info and refs) and help out. With what you say C class will be easy. The page is on my Watch List.--BSTemple (talk) 03:06, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

Sports Notability

Your thoughts on this reply? --Falcadore (talk) 02:24, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

A worry I have is certain edittors are going to see my proposal as an attack on articles they have worked on and an debate is going to be derailed as people get sensitive on their articles. This idea is about establishing a standard, rather than a justification for deletions. Any deletions per notability would be handled by AfD processes and would recquire someone to nominate potentially non-notable drivers for AfD, which is not a witch-hunt I'm particularly keen to participate in. --Falcadore (talk) 02:45, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
I hear your concerns on the subject of objectivity. Personally, I think subjectivity can't be helped as every objective criteria I've seen leaves out somebody, by way of example the word International excludes the biggest or second biggest series on the planet in NASCAR, a purely domestic series in which the majority of drivers have never raced internationally. Maybe I'm not trying hard enough but the flaws are there.
I see you've broadened the definition of prize money quite a bit, significantly more so than the usual definition. to the point that you've turned the term prize money into a subjective term. The problem there is the majority of professional series are paid salaries by teams and their sponsors and the drivers own personal endorsements. While many may have performance bonuses, they would all been commercial-in-confidence and generally not able to be quatified in the public domain. Establishing which series are paid to visit which circuits or events, and which pay for the privelege would be likewise impossible to determine objectively.
I likewise believe that three or four lines in a single Autosport story are not enough to establish notability, which I why i used the term widespread. If the only source is Autosport, then that doesn't justify widespread. --Falcadore (talk) 03:37, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

2007 Formula One season

Undoing the latest bout of Malaysian anti-Hamilton edits I notice there's an anarchroism tag on the page that you put on a year ago. The tag states there would be an explanation on the talk page, but there isn't. What was this about? --Falcadore (talk) 10:22, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

Well it was a couple of years ago now, but as far as I recall it was because the page jumps back and forth between past and present tense, and it needs going through to get it all coherent. I must have been in a hurry at the time or I'd have done it myself, which I guess is also why I didn't make a note on the talk page. Sorry 'bout that. Pyrope 12:10, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

Give me three more examples where that has happend

What you are saying will return in much more of those signs. Find me three other classified finishes on Wikipedia. Like so. You have 24 hours. If not then I'm correct. There's a million literally. You only use them for points finishers. Have a look for other articles on this race. And don't just add them yourself I'll know. (Wiki id2(talk) 16:41, 16 May 2010 (UTC))

Done, a number of times over. Pyrope 17:23, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Odd alterations?

So you think some of my alterations were odd? I found your alteration odd, I was certain you had made a misstake and would realize this once I reverted it. Scuderia means "team", nothing more. The teams may well be known by their names including this word, but that does not mean they should be sorted accordingly. FC Bayern Munich is known by that name, where FC stands for Football Club, but the Wikipedia article is sorted by default as "Muenchen, Bayern". I can't see why names of racing teams shouldn't be treated in the same way. John Anderson (talk) 13:30, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

No, I rather think you could have questioned my changes before you undid one of them. I see your point in that people who doesn't have much knowledge in motorsport nor Italian probably might think scuderia is an intergral part of the team's name, just as Italians perhaps think the same about Team McLaren for instance. Even so, I am not convinced by your reasoning. Maybe we should take it up for a discussion among more people? John Anderson (talk) 16:03, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
I do know what scuderia means and how this word has been used. I never knew one had to explicitly justify undoing misstakes, which is what I thought I did when I undid your change, so why all this "you should have"? Well I didn't, but we are discussing it now. To justify my view: the unique part of a name like Scuderia Milano for a motor racing team is not Scuderia but Milano. Isn't that obvious? How many Italian teams should we collect under S? John Anderson (talk) 20:27, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
Scuderia does mean team, or stable, depending on how you choose to translate it. Stable is the more literal translation, team is more equivalent to words used by British and American racing outfits. I don't think you are right that it could not be translated as "team". Maybe we could ask an Italian about this? John Anderson (talk) 21:21, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
So you're an expert on Italian motorsport culture? Sorry, I didn't know that. Equivalent words are however used in other languages too, écurie in French, stall in Swedish, without any degree of affectation that I know of. It's just the word used for "team" when it comes to motorsport. John Anderson (talk) 22:00, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
Not at all, I am impressed by your knowledge. I think the equivalent word in French is used in a rather neutral way and I know it is in Swedish. However, I must admit I don't know enough Italian to be sure about the real underlying meaning in the word scuderia. John Anderson (talk) 22:15, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

Hello there

Hi, I respect the fact that you have made and edited lots of pages related to Motorsports. But many users including me don't like your attitude of removing F1 results from pages updated by us. I don't understand the need of removing F1 results from pages of various drivers and teams. Can you please tell a Reason why you do so. If you remove the results from various pages, what will you be left to update???? I know anyone can update pages of Wikipedia and remove something which are unnecessary, but removing results of a constructor or driver should be done for longer articles like of Lewis Hamilton, and not those article which need to be expanded. May be results can be published with important events like wins, podiums, and championships rather than race by race updates, but compete deletion of results is not a solution. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rach.thukral (talkcontribs) 10:05, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

..

I didn't criticized you. I was just giving you a recommendation. I do wrote that I respect the fact you are great editor and also have made and edited some good pages related to F1. It's just been a few day's I've started editing pages, and I do accept I've made errors, but my Knowledge of Motorsport, specially Formula one is good . I'am sorry if my behavior was too harsh. Rachit 13:15, 7 June 2010 (UTC) —Preceding comment added by Rach.thukral (talkcontribs)

Thanks, I hope I'll improve

I do now agree with you, that adding results race by race makes F1 related articles on Wikipedia boring. I also accept my faults and errors I've made and would make sure they don't happen again. Main reason for such error is that I'm just 14 year old from India. I would surely learn more through those link about how to edit Wikipedia pages, and what would suit readers. Thank you Rachit...... 17:45, 7 June 2010 (UTC) comment added by Rach.thukral (talkcontribs)

Sockpuppet

Hi there, I saw your comment on User:Garrypaffet2's talk page. He is also User:Felipemassa123, User:Felipemassa124, and User:217.123.215.92. He was blocked for a death threat - against me, as it happens. I do find him a bit of a pain, but occasionally he puts in some decent edits. My patience is about exhausted though, and if you want to support another SPI on him, I'd be happy to do it. This category stuff is pretty tedious. Bretonbanquet (talk) 12:51, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks. I'd picked up the IP editor already, but frankly which of us hasn't forgotten to log in now and again. Seeing that he he has already been blocked twice over for other accounts... well, might be time to request a IP block? Pyrope 12:53, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
Sure, I think an IP block would have to be part of the SPI since he uses his IP a lot, and the IP's talk page is chock full of irritated editors having a moan at him - it's not like his IP is squeaky clean and the named users are the offenders. If I start an SPI, would you chip in? Bretonbanquet (talk) 12:56, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
Already on it. Pyrope 13:00, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
OK cool. The original sockmaster for SPI purposes is User:Felipemassa123. Bretonbanquet (talk) 13:06, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
Sorry, am I starting it or you? I suddenly have visions of us starting one each... :) Bretonbanquet (talk) 13:17, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
I did it already... Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Felipemassa123. Feel free to add anything I missed. Pyrope 13:19, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
Nice work - I'll just add a little comment about the initial block. Bretonbanquet (talk) 13:20, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

US GPs

I should really know better - assumptions make an ass of... well... somebody. Probably me! No worries, thanks for the update. 4u1e (talk) 20:52, 24 June 2010 (UTC)

1940s Grand Prix race reports

Hi Pyrope. It looks like it will be you and me upgrading those 1940s Grand Prix race reports. To minimise the chance of us both working on the same article at the same time, I plan to attack them in the following order: 1949 French Grand Prix, 1948 French Grand Prix, 1948 Swiss Grand Prix. So perhaps it would be a good idea for you to attack them in the reverse order (if that suits you). Unless you've already started work on 1949 French Grand Prix, in which case let me know and I'll start with a different one. Note that I haven't started any work on 1949 French Grand Prix yet and I won't be working on any of them for at least a couple of hours (maybe not even until tomorrow). Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 08:44, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Sounds like a good plan to me. Not sure how much time I'll be able to put in as I'm half way up a mountain in the Yukon right now, but I'll certainly do another one or two. Thanks for fixing up Monaco 1948, I was half asleep when I did that one... Pyrope 02:15, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
Something else to note. When I converted 1947 French Grand Prix and 1948 Italian Grand Prix, I omitted the car number column in the mistaken belief that this was the convention for pre-1950 GP race reports. But looking at a random sample of race reports from the 1920s and 1930s, it looks like the car number column is part of the standard format. So I'll add them in to those two races and any future ones I do (and I'll do Monaco 1948 too unless you beat me to it). Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 03:33, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the heads-up. By the way, any ideas about a nationality for Igor Troubetzkoy? Seems he was born in France but always considered himself a Russian nobleman (i.e. definitely not a Communist) in exile. Hence, neither French nor Soviet flags seem appropriate. Pyrope 04:24, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
Hmm, tricky. 1948 Roussillon Grand Prix uses {{flagicon|Russian Empire}} - which is possibly as good as any. DH85868993 (talk) 03:43, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
I think, on balance, I'll leave him stateless. As the Russian Empire didn't exist at the time there is no way he could have carried a racing licence issued by them. French is probably the correct form if we are going to stick with the licence nationality angle, but it seems misleading somehow as it would definitely require a footnote, which is setting a precedent I don't want to have to try and defend. Pyrope 05:21, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

Yep I see what you're saying and I will pay more attention in future to the details like you mentioned with the carbon fiber-reinforced polymer to simply carbon fiber and V6 engine to V6 and with the punctuation and of course, where pages re-direct to with the links. Thanks for pointing that out, now I'll make sure of getting it right with any future changes :)

Hopefully all changes / contributions made go to making Wikipedia more informative and easier for the average reader to understand.HoldenV8 (talk) 15:43, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Yeah I can actually see you're point there so I'll stop thatHoldenV8 (talk) 02:52, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

Driver name alignment in car articles

Hi, I am not aware of any standard requiring central alignment. Left alignment looks nicer esthetically.  Dr. Loosmark  16:52, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Is this standard, as you call it, written somewhere?  Dr. Loosmark  17:07, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
I think we should open a discussion.  Dr. Loosmark  17:28, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
You are not wrong, I simply like the left alignment. But to tell the truth your arguments don't look much better to me, why should all the cells in the table be aligned the same way and why should the table's internal consistency be more important than what looks nicer to the readers of Wikipedia anyway? I mean I agree it's not a big deal but still..  Dr. Loosmark  21:21, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
Having one column aligned differently to the other 20-30 in the table is jarring to the eye and reduces the readability. And how do you know that if I may ask?  Dr. Loosmark  22:28, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

OK about the flagsHoldenV8 (talk) 08:28, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

Birker Fell

Sorry about the headings on Birker Fell. I didn't realise how they are structured. I was just struck by the underlining, but I see now that it's correct. Thanks, Pikemaster (talk) 22:20, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

Looking for D. B.'s Cooper

Having stumbled on this, I'm hoping you can answer something about the Cooper 500's F3 record I haven't found yet. Where & when did it score its first win? Also, if you can say, by whom? (Don't make a project of finding it, if it isn't immediately at hand...) Thx. TREKphiler any time you're ready, Uhura 02:53, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

Spoke too soon. :( :( It's here. Thx anyhow. TREKphiler any time you're ready, Uhura 03:04, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

Arrows

It isn't about the car it is about the engine a team finishes a season as Mclaren-Mercedes or Lotus-Renault so if they use BMW and Ford engines then the have 2 results st the end of the season in 1984 10th and 11th. Greetings , Kevintjeerdsma1996.
