The term pyrénéisme was first used by Henri Béraldi in the preamble to his Cent ans aux Pyrénées (1898) (One Hundred Years in the Pyrenees). A Pyrénéiste refers to someone who has made a distinct contribution – either physically or intellectually – to the exploration of the Pyrenees mountain range in France and Spain.
